According to a document posted by Congressmen Mark Meadow rolling back parts of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 is a part of Trump’s first 100 days plan. Republicans in the House and Senate are reportedly looking into the legislation with plans to reform the former First Lady’s unpopular pet project.
In case you’ve been blissfully unaware of this endeavor to improve nutrition in public schools, this government funded program was meant to give school-aged kids a more balanced diet by establishing a more rigorous school lunch guideline.
Via Conservative Tribune: “The regulations have proven to be burdensome and unworkable for schools to implement,” a report from the House Freedom Caucus read. “Schools are throwing food away that students are not eating.”
The concept is a nice one – who wouldn’t want their kids to eat more fruits and veggies! However, in 2015 Fox News reported that “children consumed fewer[fruits and vegetables] and wasted more during the school year immediately following the implementation of the USDA rule.”
The bill assumed public school districts did not provide students with healthy foods and that government is needed to enforce better dietary standards. The initiative has failed miserably with food being wasted and students complaining about the taste and presentation of the food provided. However, the First Lady and her liberal supporters insisted that given a little time, American school cafeterias would eventually be transformed into a leafy oasis of nutrition.

Fortunately, it appears as if Republicans are taking this opportunity to give the power back to the school districts and allow them to minimize waste as they see fit.
