The Environmental Protection Agency could see a massive reduction of its staff, perhaps as much as 50 percent, according to The Associated Press.
Former head of Donald Trump’s EPA transition team Myron Ebell said in an interview with the AP Friday that Trump would likely seek “significant reductions” to the agency’s workforce. Ebell did not discuss specifics regarding the number of people that could be affected.
Ebell added that cutting the agency’s size in half would be a good start.
“Let’s aim for half and see how it works out, and then maybe we’ll want to go further,” he said.
Ebell added that the change was a necessary one because, under former President Barack Obama, the EPA’s leaders “politicized” the issue of global warming and allowed activists within the organization to publish “junk science.”
Ebell left Trump’s transition team last week for his position as the director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the Competitive Enterprise Institute.
Ebell has previously voiced criticism of federal environmental regulations, claiming they strangle the national economy, the Chicago Tribune reported.
As you might imagine, liberals are having a collective meltdown.
Some claimed the budget cuts would be a lose-lose proposition for Western states.
.@EPA projects create jobs & clean our air & water. Trump’s budget cuts = lose-lose proposition for Western states https://t.co/5KKL5ZVzz1

Others defended the bloated bureaucracy that we know as public service.
Rumours Trump will cuts 1000s of jobs… at EPA. Amazing how a pro-jobs platform doesn’t apply to public service https://t.co/xXZevtCg5I

And others encouraged people to call their representatives.
Call your senators. Call your representatives. At lunch. When you wake up in the morning. When you’re driving home (hands-free, please). https://t.co/GaRO8dJXMG

Some attempted to promote fear by insinuating that the cuts would lead to disaster.
@LiessiePiessie you realize the EPA is responsible for our drinkable water and clean air right? I agree cuts may be needed, but not EPA

Obamacare repeal ALONE will kill 43,000 people every year. Cuts to Medicaid, SNAP/WIC, EPA kill more #MarchForLife https://t.co/EEdMg68aU8

The EPA was reportedly even offering counseling for those who are stressed about the change.

When liberals get their knickers in a twist like this, you know good things are coming.
If Ebell’s claims are true, it could be the beginning of the end for federal government agencies that have a tendency to overreach — which, of course, is all of them. The EPA’s efforts to regulate greenhouse gasses, the recent Clean Water Act and the organization’s general attempt to usurp the authority of Congress to make law are examples of why this kind of cut needs to happen.
