The Department of Justice provided documents to the House Intelligence Committee Friday regarding President Donald Trump’s claim that he was wiretapped at Trump Tower.
CNN, quoting unnamed sources, reports the information will not confirm Trump’s allegations that President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., confirmed the documents were provided.
“The Committee is satisfied that the Department of Justice has fully complied with our request for information from our March 8 letter on possible surveillance related to Donald Trump or his associates,” he said in a statement.

Nunes said the CIA and FBI had not yet provided information “necessary to determine whether information collected on U.S. persons was mishandled and leaked.”
Nunes has said in the past he had not seen any evidence to support Trump’s claim.
However, media reports show federal agencies sought permission to conduct surveillance of Trump Tower in 2016.
One issue raised is whether communications from Trump or his aides were collected incidentally as part of another investigation.
“We need to figure out what happened here, there’s a lot of unanswered question. I just don’t want anybody jumping to any conclusion on any side of this, other than the fact that we know that Obama didn’t physically wiretap Trump Tower,” Nunes added. “But everything else is still … there’s a lot of unknowns.”
The documents were also reportedly given to the Senate Intelligence Committee.
On Monday, the House Intelligence Committee will hold a hearing on Russian interference in the 2016 election. FBI Director James Comey will testify during that hearing.

On Friday, Trump raised the wiretapping issue during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
“As far as wiretapping I guess by this past administration, at least we have something in common, perhaps,” Trump said.
Merkel had been under surveillance by the National Security Agency, which was exposed by leaker Edward Snowden.
