“That’s what America is about, a land of dreams and opportunity,” Carson said. “There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less. But they too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, great-granddaughters, might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land.”
“Ben Carson..please read or watch Roots, most immigrants come here VOLUNTARILY can’t really say the same about the slaves..they were stolen,” Whoopi said, according to Right Wing News.
Right after Whoopi said this, she was hit with a brutal dose of reality on Twitter.
“@WhoopiGoldberg actually they were sold by black slave traders,” one Twitter user wrote to her.
This is correct, as many slaves were sold to slave traders by their fellow Africans. In addition, a portion of slaves weren’t even black, as some of them were white indentured servants. Whoopi would know this if she ever picked up a history book herself, but she’s too busy mouthing off about Donald Trump’s administration to bother doing any research.
