Attorney General Jeff Sessions revealed during an interview Thursday that he was possibly open to appointing someone outside the Trump administration to review the actions taken by former President Barack Obama’s Department of Justice.
He made the astonishing admission when questioned by former Reagan administration official and radio show host Hugh Hewitt about the previous administration’s litany of scandals.
“I’m a proud veteran of the Department of Justice, as you are, but the IRS case, the Fast and Furious case, Secretary (Hillary) Clinton’s server … the Department of Justice came under great criticism,” the host said.
“How about an outside counsel, not connected to politics, to review the DOJ’s actions in those matters with authority to bring charges if underlying crimes are uncovered in the course of the investigation, and just generally to look at how the Department of Justice operated in the highly-politicized Holder Lynch years?” he then asked, referencing former Attorney Generals Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch.
“Well, I’m going to do everything I possibly can to restore the independence and professionalism of the Department of Justice, so we would have to consider whether or not some outside special counsel is needed,” Sessions replied.
While the attorney general was clearly noncommittal about the prospect of essentially investigating his predecessors, he just as clearly left the door open to doing so if needed.

Sessions added that the IRS’ proven targeting of conservative organizations, in particular, remained of “real concern.”
According to RedState, it was only earlier this week that the IRS suddenly announced that it had located “6,924 new documents … regarding targeting of tea party organizations under now-disgraced former IRS head Lois Lerner.”
What concerned individuals like Attorney General Sessions and Hugh Hewitt was the suspicion that Obama’s Justice Department had never satisfactorily investigated and prosecuted the officials behind this targeting.
Regardless, it would be nice if someone were to finally get to the bottom of the Obama administration’s many scandals and, once and for all, expose both Barack Hussein Obama and his top acolytes for the corrupt bureaucrats they really were.
