C.E. Dyer reports that after President Donald Trump met with leaders of historically black colleges, Howard University had disgusting, racist messages painted on the campus criticizing the university president for attending.
The Blaze reported:
The president of a prominent black college was blasted as the “overseer” of the “Trump plantation” in a spray-painted message — along with other graffiti on the Howard University campus — after a White House meeting with leaders of historically black colleges.
Washington, D.C., stations WTTG-TV and WRC-TV said Howard University President Wayne A.I. Frederick was part of Monday’s meeting at the White House.
The graffiti was discovered Tuesday morning on the Washington, D.C., campus, DCist reported.

Frederick responded to the hateful graffiti:

Frederick also received criticism for meeting with Education Secretary Betsy DeVos in early February:
We furthermore do not agree with the meeting that took place between Howard University and Betsy DeVos.

According to DCist, Frederick noted that the university was “pleased” that DeVos “chose to visit our institution as her first official campus visit.” He also reportedly said that Howard has a “longstanding, successful relationship with the Department of Education, and I look forward to advancing this relationship under the Secretary’s leadership.”
Thanks to @HUPrez17 & student leaders for the great discussion @HowardU today. Congrats on #HowardU150! pic.twitter.com/OfkP5w1nV9

Apparently some students thought that their university’s president meeting with the U.S. education secretary was somehow a bad thing:
@HUPrez17 @usedgov @BetsyDeVos you don’t deserve to be the president of this institution. You need to go

No, you can’t have a university president that does his job and reaches out to government officials that some individuals choose to hold a bigoted opinion about. Of course not! He should kowtow to the racist opinions that would have him snub those in the government with whom he has to work for the good of the university he leads.
A student group, HUResist, reportedly demanded in a meeting with Frederick that the university reject federal funding and ban the leader of the free world from their campus.
Because that’s rational and not bigoted at all …
Despite this reported irrational/racist/bigoted behavior, HUResist took to Twitter to say that they were not behind the graffiti:
Just for clarification: the spray paint and messages on Howard’s campus were not an official action by HUResist.

Furthermore any future destruction of property in any form should not be attributed to HUResist

Some Howard students spoke out about the graffiti and were not happy to see their campus defaced.
“I see the students’ need to protest, but this is just clear vandalism,” sophomore Francisco Joseph told DCist. “I’m never about slandering people — this went a little bit too far.”
The Blaze reported: “Sophomore Taylor Washington told the outlet she also saw graffiti by some dorms and that the term ‘overseer’ for Frederick is a slap in the face in the black community. ‘I just feel like it’s a little dramatic,’ she said.”
